Our Story

Mr Goh AM is 69 years old who lives in a 3-room HDB flat with his low IQ wife of 42 years old. They have 4 growing children aged 9 -17, with the 17-year-old diagnosed with ADHD, 15-year-old with anxiety disorder, 11-year-old with speech disability, and a 9-year-old.

Given the circumstances that Mr Goh was in, he worked very hard to provide for his family and was diagnosed with end stage kidney failure 10 years ago. The doctor then recommended ambulatory peritoneal dialysis for Mr Goh’s treatment. However, after 5 years of peritoneal dialysis, Mr Goh developed peritonitis and had to switch to hemodialysis treatment instead.

Mr Goh now travels 3x a week from his Marsiling flat to Ang Mo Kio Thye Hua Kwan Dialysis Centre for his renal treatment. He continued to work as a part-time security guard in Jurong but recently suffered a bad fall and is no longer able to work. Currently Mr Goh and his family is relying on the monthly assistance offered by Ministry of Social and Family Development.

There are many families whose sole breadwinner is suffering from end stage kidney failure. With the continued support from donors like yourself, Mr Goh and other renal patients in the hospital can receive care and support they need to live their best lives.

Kidney failure is one of the most common chronic disease in Singapore. 2 out of 3 persons are at risks of this prevalent disease resulting from hypertension, diabetes or condition of the two.

With treatment and care, renal patients can still aim for best quality of life during end-stage renal disease. However, the cost of treatment can be staggering, especially for those who lack healthcare coverage or resources.

At Ang Mo Kio Thye Hua Kwan Hospital, we have “Support the Gift of Life” funds. This is a special Fund that we will fundraise every year in the period of April to September; dedicated to aid the less privilege patients who require financial assistance for their renal care treatment.

The target for 2023 “Support the Gift of Life” fund is $300,000, which will be raise to support 120 less privileged patients. The funds will be used on

  • the cost of dialysis treatments and medications
  • other care and support services, including patient’s 2- way transportation to and fro from home to our dialysis center for their 3x weekly treatment.

Help us provide vital support to the renal patients and their families. Your every donation can have a significant impact to their lives; and also, in support to our vision to serve mankind. You can deliver that difference in their lives!
